Home Steppers History About The NCSSD The Event The Mission

The history of what has become known as Chicago style stepping dates back to "several African American dance forms, The Ring-Shout, The Cakewalk, The Jitterbug, The Swing, The Offtime, The Bop, and The New Bop in particular" according to Daniel Land of the SteppersExpress.com.

More recent history has seen the dance morph from Bop to stepping and a broad adoption of the dance across the country in cities other than Chicago's neighborhoods where the dance saw it's birth and growth.
